Ondoy drowns Vermont Park

September 26, 2009 – Typhoon Ondoy hits Manila, Rizal, Marikina, Pasig and other parts of the Metro. This photo was taken afternoon September 27, 2009 the day after Ondoy’s devastating flood drowned Vermont Park. The flood rised so high up to the point that the spikes are the only left seen on our gate. Three of our near neighbors evacuated on our 2nd floor to save little children, some of their assets and even a dog. This is the first time and the worst tragedy that ever happened to our village, on the brighter side, Ondoy created a tighter bond between Albany Extension neighbors. We’re all happy everyone in the street survived!

We did a night trek and took the “new trail” to  Mt. Batulao’s summit on July 4, 2009. This photo was taken the day after, while going back to the jump-off point (EverCrest). The trek down was freakin’ hot since Batulao is carpeted with cogon grass and it doesn’t have trees to shade mountaineers on trail. The structure of the mountain is stunning!

P.S.   Lance Kaye Valle welcome to Hardcore Mountaineers!

The sands in Anawangin Cove are said to be volcanic white sands from Mt. Pinatubo’s eruption .

According to locals of San Antonio, Zambales, they call that little island Susong Dalaga which means a maiden’s breast. I then asked: ‘Where’s the nipple?’

Ivan is back from the US and Jeka just celebrated her birthday – two good reasons to do a Hardcore climb! We didn’t hire a guide that’s why we got lost in Mt. Pundaquit. We can’t find a god damn trail so we pioneered a hardcore trail that stretched the supposed-to-be 3 to 4 hour climb to a long 8 hour exploratory trek. 70% of the trail we took up to the summit is streaming water, the remaining 30% is bamboo. Our emergency camp is dope! NO TENTS! Pointed rocks are scattered along the area leaving no spots for pitching tents. We’re like “find your own comfortable spot” haha! We’re   so thankful it didn’t rain though internet weather forecast predicted “A thunderstorm or two” in Zamables.  We reached Anawangin Cove the next day. The place was GREAT! But I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t get to visit Capones Island which is included on our side trip because the itinerary has been RUINED. We plan to come back to the cove via Mt. Balingkilat next time btw
